Ocean conservation allies and colleagues from the Blue Frontier Campaign are sponsoring the annual “Peter Benchley Awards,” a gala event to recognize leading ocean heroes.
This year’s recipients include NOAA Secretary Dr. Jane Lubchenco, Academy Award winning producer Louis Psihoyos (“The Cove”), and ocean explorer Don Walsh (deep diving “RV Triest”). The event will be MC’d by Phillipe Cousteau.
Taking place at the California Academy of Science on Friday, June 25, this formal dinner and cocktail soiree will be an opportunity to meet and greet the recipients and many other ocean conservationists – highlighting the importance of the ocean in our lives. Given that only a penny of conservation funds are invested in the ocean for every dollar invested on terrestrial environmental issues, this highlighting itself can be very important.
Promoting ocean awareness is the work of the Blue Frontier Campaign, and all proceeds above the event costs will go to the Campaign for their ongoing ocean outreach projects.
