OCR featured in National Geographic Online article

Last week after President Obama announced that offshore areas would be opened for oil exploration and extraction I received a call from National Geographic writer Marianne Lavelle. She was doing research for an article published online yesterday about seismic surveys.

As a diligent journalist she did her homework and interviewed representatives from both the Minerals Management Service as well as the American Petroleum Institute. She was gracious enough to run her draft by me on Monday for review and comment.

I included many comments and citations that were well beyond the scope of her short article, but I do appreciate the balance she did present in the few words she was allotted on this complex issue.

She also indicated an interest in following up on some of the deeper complexities in future writing.

I am not a big fan of the recent offshore decision, but as always, the Devil is in the details. I will be speaking with stakeholders over the next few weeks; visiting Maryland and DC, and trying to get some clarity on the implications of our stilted “energy policy.”

I hope to be able to offer some interesting, and perhaps hopeful news as it develops.

Stay tuned!
